in medias res
wow. generally I feel in over my head with this job, usually just when I feel like I'm handling things, another problem occurs. also, in hindsight, I question my wisdom in moving up here, away from church/friends etc. It is a great job, it's just location, location, location...not much is up, also, I miss my previous mega church in the O.C. with tons of *single* people.

along came a spider & I'm under the paper load
o.k., the above title is really two titles in one since I couldn't decide which one is better, I'll explain later.
Gave the first Chem test Monday and now I am *just about to grade*

the quiet girl phenomenon
I've noticed (and I want to mention briefly) something I'll call the quiet girl phenomenon. For example, it took one of my students two weeks before she said anything aloud in class! She finally spoke last Friday. I was like, "she speaks!! she speaks!!" and I wasn't sure if its something cultural, or something else, these are freshmen girls, Latinos. But I teach in a poor, poor area, I love it though, it's like I've joined the peace corp--"the toughest job you'll ever love"--only with slightly better accommodations. (and we have a gym here, which I shortly will be joining)

also, I might add, I locked myself out of the school yesterday
or rather, inside the school. being the overzealous new teacher I was working yesterday (yes, a saturday) went to the restroom, left the faculty women's room without my keys, the door closed and automatically locked with my keys inside. I was the only person working at the school, *and* I locked the chain fence (for safety).
luckily I had my cell phone. I had to call a string of people (the principal) until someone came to let me out.
No, it gets better. The second teacher I called, he was so happy to talk to me (he didn't think I was calling to request his assistance in escaping from the locked school), he started the conversation, "I brag about you..." I actually said, "Well, you're going to stop bragging when..."
